The carb is off, so I can drive all the way out to chilliwack and drop it off to be rebuilt. That’s the good news. The bad news is that I can’t turn the engine. I suppose it’s not surprising that sitting for 5 years is enough for an engine to seize. Since I forgot a funnel, I couldn’t put any oil in the cylinders, so I’ll be going back to the car tomorrow with oil and a funnel, and hopefully after letting that sit in there for a while , I’ll be able to turn it. Otherwise it’ll be a very quick end to this idea.
Bonus crystallized coolant? on a spark plug

That’s not good...
Although engines that sit for a while d o strange things, might be nothing but random seepage if you’re lucky though

I’m hoping it’s just random seepage . It never overheated when I last had it running, but the head gasket could just be leaking a bit from age I suppose.

What’s the plan if it does not spin?

I have no idea, but it almost certainly won’t be driving any time soon if I can’t get it to turn.

Shit. Well, if you need any help wrenching, let me know. I don’t have much skill, but I have my own tools!

I’ve had good luck with a 1:1 mixture of kerosene and ATF. Fill the cylinders up with it, let it sit a few days, and see if you can break it loose. PB Blaster or Break Away aerosol penetrating oils are a good option, too.

Mine had 2 carbs that you had to dump AT fluid into ... Strombergs perhaps.

I haven’t heard kerosene before, but I hear diesel a lot so that makes sense. I’ve also heard marvel m ystery oil, or just regular motor oil. I’ve gotta settle on something by tomorrow, then it’ll be sitting with that till next weekend.

Could’ve been those, or SUs. Mine would’ve had dual SUs originally, but had been swapped to a single by the time I got it. I put the Weber on it in 2012 or 2013, after rebuilding it poorly. Never got it running right with it, so now I’m trying again now that I’m not a dumb teenager.

Diesel works just as well. MMO I imagine would work fine- I’ve never used it, though.

Now I recall - believe it was SUs. Rebuilt one of them once, and one of them twice. It was grueling.

I’ve heard ATF and acetone also works.

I took this out 2 years ago (2 liter to replace a 1.8) . Had it machined last year, crankshaft balanced and honed. Painted it last year. Looks really nice in the spare room (wife doesn’t find it funny anymore).
